After over a million votes from more than 100,000 voters, Metallica’s ‘Master of Puppets’ has claimed the #1 spot for the Rock 2000 Countdown 2023!
It’s the second time the track has won it, also claiming the top spot in 2016. In last year’s countdown, it came in at second place - most likely due to the smash Netflix show ‘Stranger Things’ featuring the song in a critical scene and reminding music fans just how epic the track is.

It’s now the ninth time James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo (and all the past band members) have won the Rock 2000. Their track ‘One’ has placed at #1 four other times (2002, 2009, 2011, 2012), placing at #6 this year. ‘Enter Sandman’ has landed at the top spot three times (2004, 2005, 2008), placing at #27 this year.
Other notable stats from the final stretch of this year's countdown: Linkin Park’s ‘Numb’ jumped up a 39 spots from last year to land at #3. That’s the highest jump in the top 10. It's no match for Ozzy Osbourne and Jeff Beck's 'Patient Numer 9', which jumped up a fecking ridiculous 1128 spots to hit #26, the biggest rise in this year's countdown.
‘Lost’ by Linkin Park had an all-time debut, coming in at #12 after it was released in February of this year. Not behd, good size.
Last year’s winner, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ‘Simple Man’ fell out of the top ten, dropping to #16. It just goes to show that staying at the top ain’t simple, man.
