Study finds Kiwis are big rooters, ranking third in the world for most sexual partners

Turns out, we’ve gone and earnt ourselves a bronze promiscuity medal.

A new study has discovered the countries where people have the highest number of sexual partners - and New Zealand’s place on the list might surprise you.

Conducted by researchers for World Population Review, the study surveyed people from 46 different countries and compiled ‘datasets from multiple third party sources’ to give us an idea of where New Zealand sits on the promiscuity list.

Turns out, we’ve gone and earnt ourselves a bronze promiscuity medal, with good ol’ NZ placing third on the list with an average of 13.2 sexual partners in our lifetime.

We follow closely behind our naughty neighbours across the ditch in Australia, who’ve averaged 13.3 sexual partners. Turkey has taken out the number one spot, with the results showing Turks have an average of 14.5 sexual partners in their lifetime. Go Turkey.

Iceland, South Africa and Finland have come in at 4th, 5th and 6th respectively - have a look at the top 10 below.

Top 10 Countries with the Highest Average Number of Sexual Partners

1. Turkey: 14.5
2. Australia: 13.3
3. New Zealand: 13.2
4. Iceland: 13
5. South Africa: 12.5
6. Finland: 12.4
7. Norway: 12.1
8. Italy: 11.8
9. Sweden: 11.8
10. Switzerland and Ireland: 11.1

USA and Canada just missed out on making the top 10 list, with both countries sharing the sheets with an average of 10.7 people in their lifetime. Surprisingly, the UK has come in 21st place, with an average of 9.8 lifetime sexual partners.

Coming in lucky (or not so lucky) last, we have Vietnam (3.2), China (3.1), and India (3).

According to the study, the global average for the amount of lifetime sexual partners is nine - so if you’ve slept with more people than that number, congrats, you can say you’re above average at something!
